When did submissions close?
Submissions are written opinions from the public about a bill.
Submissions about the bill closed on 14 January, 2025. There was a record 300,000 submissions, with 90% against the bill.
A committee of MPs called a select committee invited people to speak about their submissions.

What is happening now?
The Select Committee released their report on the 4th of April.
They recommended that the bill does not proceed.
After this, the bill will go to a second reading and vote in Parliament.
The National Party has promised not to support the Bill at the second reading.
